On Tuesday, we had visitors from the Historic Foundation of Columbia come teach us about life long ago. We dressed like people from the past, we learned dominoes, we used a stereoscope to view pictures in 3-D, we wrote on slates, and we made calling cards. It was a blast! Today, we kicked off our "Then and Now" unit by researching in the media center with Mrs. Scullion and Mrs. Peebles. We began learning what life was like a long time ago in four different areas: school, transportation, communication, and fun. Then, we talked about how life then compares with our lives now. We have a lot more to learn with this topic, so look forward to more information coming home soon!
Parents,
We spent the week leading up to our field trip exploring pumpkins. After feeling the inside of a pumpkin, your child wrote an opinion piece on whether or not they liked the way pumpkin pulp felt. Check out some awesome pictures! On Tuesday, we celebrated Veterans Day at Forest Lake! We had a beautiful assembly in the gym with performances by the entire second grade, our fourth and fifth grade chorus, and a brass quintet of army veterans! Then, we had two soldiers from Fort Jackson come read to us, answer questions about the military, and run some drills with us! We learned how to do push-ups and give our attention to the sergeant. We are thankful and appreciative to all those who have been or are currently in service!

Welcome! My name is Elizabeth McKenna, and this is my eighth year teaching kindergarten. I am thrilled to be a part of our eLc program and our FLE family! Beth Busbee is our outstanding teaching assistant who happens to be a lifelong educator herself. Thank you for allowing us to teach and learn with your child every day. We can't wait to get started!
