We are off to a great start in kindergarten! I know you probably have lots of questions about what we are doing in school, so I thought I would give you a few of the highlights. Additionally, I wanted to let you know that we have a parent information night coming up on Thursday, August 27 from 5:00-6:00. Please come if you can to get some of those questions answered and hear about what we plan on doing this year in our classroom. This week, your child is learning the procedures of EVERYTHING! How/when do we go to the bathroom? How do we walk in the hallway? What do we do in the cafeteria? How do we get the teacher's attention? What is a line?! :) We are practicing these routines a lot and discussing our school rules.
Your child has learned that at Forest Lake, we SOAR! We are Safe, On Task, Always Respectful, and Responsible. You can help your child understand these rules at home as well. Students are awarded "SOAR bucks" if they are caught doing these things. At the end of the week, they get to spend their soar bucks as on fun "treasure box" items.
Your child is also getting to know his/her classmates and experiencing learning centers like housekeeping, computers, constructing (blocks/legos), the writing center, and our creation station. Today we introduced writing workshop and the process of becoming authors. We are working right now on thinking of a time from our lives and writing (or drawing) about it on paper. You can assist your child with this process by helping them think of topics to write about (the time you went to the grocery store, your family beach trip, playing hide and seek at home, etc.). You can also invoke excitement for your child becoming an author and make a HUGE deal out of it!
Continue to check in with our blog to find out more information. Starting next Friday, I will be posting our newsletter under the "newsletters" tab at the top of the page. Thank you for sharing your child with us each and every day!
