Happy New Year! I hope you all had a lovely holiday with your children. We had a great first day back, and it was wonderful to see all of those smiling faces again. I wanted to let you all know of a little shift that has taken place in our classroom over the last few weeks. As some of you already know, Mrs. Howell left for personal reasons back in November and originally planned on returning in January. Her circumstances have changed unexpectedly, and she wrote a letter to all of you that I copied below. While we are sad to see Mrs. Howell go, we are excited to (officially) welcome Ms. Lisa Crawford into our classroom community. We are so grateful to have Mrs. Crawford with us, as she has been our hardworking long-term substitute ever since Mrs. Howell's absence. She is a former classroom teacher with many gifts to offer. She has grown quite attached to your little ones and has done a fantastic job since joining us. Please join me in welcoming her to FLE and eLc kindergarten!
Dear Parents, It is with deep sadness that I send to you this letter informing you of my resignation as Kindergarten Teaching Assistant at Forest Lake Elementary. During recovery from my surgery I was presented with a growth opportunity and will be pursuing a career elsewhere. Know that your children were a joy to teach and have all touched my heart greatly. I will truly miss their smiling faces and interesting stories . Though I regret that I must leave them, I will cherish the memories and keep in touch for updates! I have appreciated working with each one of you as we strive to give your children the best start possible. It truly has been a pleasure and I wish everyone the best! Love, Mrs. Howell S. Kenley Howell We visited Mrs. Jones's second grade class to view their non-fiction exhibits. They taught us about lots of things, like butterflies, cheetahs, presidents, electricity, and insects. Then, we shared some of our expert non-fiction writing with them! We had a great time learning from each other.
We did our last checkout before winter break today. Enjoy your child's book with him/her through Friday. On that day, we will return books in an effort to prevent misplacing them over the break. Thank you!
Students did an awesome job presenting their projects! We learned so much from our interviews. Thank you for the part you played in helping us extend our learning.
Just a friendly reminder about the optional questionnaire that went home last week. If your child has had the opportunity to interview someone who lived long ago (or at least relatively long ago), he/she can bring in that project this Friday (or Monday if that suits better). There were no specific requirements- your child may share the information in whatever creative way he/she chooses. We look forward to presenting these over the coming days!

Welcome! My name is Elizabeth McKenna, and this is my eighth year teaching kindergarten. I am thrilled to be a part of our eLc program and our FLE family! Beth Busbee is our outstanding teaching assistant who happens to be a lifelong educator herself. Thank you for allowing us to teach and learn with your child every day. We can't wait to get started!
