We were glad to have most of our friends back today after the break. Sounds like everyone had a lot of fun!! We enjoyed writing about our vacations and sharing them with one another.

We made it to spring break! I hope you will enjoy this time with your family and get some rest and relaxation. Your child has worked hard during this third quarter of learning-penguins, persuasive writing, African American history, teen numbers, addition, subtraction, animal habitats, and the list goes on. I can't believe how time is flying! When we get back, we will embark on our fun and exciting gardening unit. The Monday we return, we will be planting in our very own FLE "Kinder Garden," so make sure to send your child dressed appropriately for that (shorts, short sleeves, tennis shoes, etc.). In the meantime, have some fun, read with your student as much as possible, and we'll be looking forward to a great fourth quarter!
Today, Mrs. Luthren came to our class to teach a lesson on careers. She read the book Being Wendy and talked about how we shouldn't "box ourselves in" to only having one career dream; it's okay to be interested in lots of things! She talked about how some people even change careers. As Ola said (using one of our vocabulary words beautifully), "You can always adapt!" The students wrote about several of their dreams, ranging from selling ice cream to being president! She was thoroughly impressed with their level of thoughtfulness and complexity with such a "grown up" topic. I was, too!
Today was such a wonderful celebration of your child's hard work! I am so proud of every student for sharing their dreams with such a large crowd. For many of them, that was their first public speaking opportunity. What an outstanding and memorable first speech! Thank you to those of you who could be here; I know it was special for your child. For those who couldn't make it, do not worry. I will send you your child's speech via e-mail. I know how busy life is! :) Thanks again for sharing your wonderful, dream-filled children with us every day! What a blessing to teach these amazing kids.
Today, we did some great animal habitat research with special guest Mrs. Wertz (our school literacy coach). We studied deserts, savannas, and rain forests after delving into wetlands last week. Here are some pictures of us hard at work!
Please see the attached announcements concerning our Silent Auction and The Lion King, Jr. Thanks!

Welcome! My name is Elizabeth McKenna, and this is my eighth year teaching kindergarten. I am thrilled to be a part of our eLc program and our FLE family! Beth Busbee is our outstanding teaching assistant who happens to be a lifelong educator herself. Thank you for allowing us to teach and learn with your child every day. We can't wait to get started!
